The Freetrade Android mobile application provides the functionality for customers to access investment opportunities across the financial markets in the UK, US and EU.

The role requires someone with a good understanding of the Android mobile platform, ability to problem solve, and passion to improve their skills and deliver within a highly collaborative team.

This is a unique opportunity to work with knowledgeable and experienced mobile engineers across both iOS and Android platforms, that will help develop your abilities.

As part of our dedicated mobile engineering team, you will work on implementing new features as well as ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction by assisting in handling customer queries and feedback. In collaboration with design, product and QA teams you will craft new user experiences that will delight our customers. You will also help guide priorities around platform issues, technical debt, patterns, and architecture, ensuring we deliver a high‑quality app and an excellent developer experience.

We have recently rebranded key parts of the app, creating a new design system from scratch built with Jetpack Compose, and have started transitioning to a modern, unified Graph

QL API using Apollo.

• Android app is written fully in Kotlin
• Components organized using the MVVM pattern
• Dependency injection via Hilt
• Screens built with Jetpack Compose design system
• Firebase used for authentication

• Contribute to the development of new features and maintain existing features of the Freetrade Android app.
• Ensure high performance, quality, security and responsiveness of the application.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (backend, design, product, QA) to define, design, and ship new features such as JISA accounts and a dedicated rewards hub.
• Write tests and participate in code reviews to maintain robustness.
• Identify and correct bottlenecks, fix bugs, and improve code quality, organization, automation and releases.
• Participate in a support rota to understand and address customer issues, communicating directly with customers when necessary.

• Typically around 4‑5 years of experience developing production‑grade mobile applications
• Strong problem‑solving ability and passion for improving skills
• Good understanding of mobile architectural patterns (MVVM, MVI)
• Experience with industry‑standard Android tools (Kotlin, Dagger/Hilt, Jetpack libraries)
• Familiarity with Jetpack Compose for modern UIs
• Experience with reactive libraries (coroutines, RxJava)
• Solid grasp of Android framework development (imperative or declarative)
• Experience building APIs for backend connectivity
• Understanding of Human Interface Guidelines
• Working knowledge of version control (Git) and continuous integration (Circle
