Software Developer – XR

As a Software Developer – XR at Foster + Partners, you will help shape cutting‑edge extended reality (XR) technologies that transform how the built environment is designed, visualised and experienced. Working within the Applied Research + Development team, you will create immersive, interactive applications that enable real‑time collaboration, high‑fidelity visualisation and spatial insight across architecture, engineering and construction projects.

Responsibilities
  • Build immersive XR applications that push the boundaries of design and collaboration.
  • Work across the full innovation lifecycle from experimental prototypes to production‑ready solutions.
  • Explore cutting‑edge AR, VR and real‑time game engine technologies.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across architecture, engineering and technology.
  • Contribute to meaningful projects that shape the future of the built environment.
Qualifications
  • Strong experience developing interactive or XR applications across multiple platforms and devices.
  • Advanced knowledge of Unreal and/or Unity game engines and real‑time rendering workflows.
  • Solid programming expertise in C++ and/or C#.
  • Awareness of XR risks and best practices with a focus on delivering robust, secure solutions.
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, Dev Ops practices and version control tools such as Git.
  • Knowledge of UI/UX principles and interaction design within immersive environments.
  • Familiarity with cloud, streaming or GPU technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, CUDA) and design and construction tools such as Rhino, Grasshopper or Revit is advantageous.
