What you’ll be doingLead and develop innovative payment solutions and services as part of the Enterprise & Accounting Lab, supporting accounting, reconciliation, and payment integration capabilities across core payment services.
- Provide technical leadership across business‑critical payment services (e.g. Faster Payments, CHAPS, COP), shaping architecture and delivery beyond a single team.
- Own end‑to‑end technical outcomes at team or lab level, accountable for quality, resilience, and delivery predictability.
- Lead complex design decisions for low‑latency, resilient, secure, and compliant payment solutions.
- Manage cross‑team dependencies, technical risks, and delivery impediments impacting the Payments Services Platform.
- Balance customer outcomes, regulatory risk, and platform maintainability when making delivery decisions.
- Drive Dev Ops maturity across teams through improvements to CI/CD, monitoring, automation, and quality controls.
- Strong understanding of an entire application stack and experience with microservices technologies (Spring Boot, JSON, Kafka, RESTful APIs, web services).
- Proven experience designing and delivering resilient, scalable, secure payment services in regulated environments.
- Systems and solution design capability, evidence of leading technical decisions beyond a single feature.
- Technical leadership: setting engineering standards, reviewing designs and code, improving quality and Dev Ops maturity.
- Expertise in modern microservices, APIs, event‑driven architectures and non‑functional requirements such as latency, availability, and recoverability.
- Live service health ownership: incident response, root‑cause analysis, preventative resilience improvements.
- Ability to scale technical impact by mentoring engineers, influencing stakeholders, and improving platform‑level ways of working.
- Technical knowledge of Spring Boot, Camel, Maven, Git Hub, Jenkins, JSON, Kafka/WMQ, REST APIs, SQL, Docker, Kubernetes.
- Experience with cloud‑based tools (IBM Cloud Private, Google GCP, Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS).
