As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. This role is focused on:

• Working with designers and product managers to scope out new features, functionality, and technical requirements.
• Proposing and implementing innovative approaches and solutions to ensure we future‑proof features.
• Participating in code review processes, as a code author and a reviewer.
• Coaching, leading, and mentoring your team to help them achieve their goals.
• Performing structured performance reviews, conducting regular 1:1s, participating in the hiring process of new engineers, and planning goals & milestones for your team.
• Fostering a positive and productive work environment by promoting collaboration, open communication, and continuous learning and development opportunities.

• You have a proven record of crafting high-performance commercial software in Ruby or Type Script/Node.js for large-scale global projects and are willing to learn Ruby/Rails on the job.
• You’re grounded in computer science and engineering fundamentals, including concurrency, multithreading, data structures, solution design, architecture, and design patterns.
• You communicate confidently in writing and verbally, and you can lead both technical and non-technical conversations with colleagues.
• You have several years of people management experience, leading and mentoring other software engineers. You care deeply about mentorship and thrive by empowering others.
• You have a strong sense of ownership and are eager to proactively find and develop novel solutions to challenging problems.
• You have experience in embedding AI-enabled development practices within your teams that meaningfully improve cycle times.

The content is ingested into Canva, making it available for everyone to use. We are part of Canva but continue to build new features for the standalone Pexels product.
