Engineering Manager - Market Data

Responsibilities

• Leading a team of six high‑performing engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Setting the strategic direction of the team, defining the technical roadmap and aligning it with broader Data Engineering and firm‑wide objectives.
• Remaining a hands‑on engineer, contributing directly to the codebase and leading by example on technical design and implementation.
• Navigating commercial and technical conversations with external data vendors, managing relationships and ensuring the firm’s data needs are met.
• Partnering with internal stakeholders across systematic trading, discretionary research, and technology to translate requirements into successful delivery.
• Driving the adoption of AI‑assisted development tools across the team to accelerate delivery and raise engineering productivity.
• Owning the operational excellence of a multi‑petabyte, low‑latency market‑data platform processing billions of data points daily.

• 8+ years of professional experience in software engineering.
• Experience with data feeds.
• Experience running and delivering complex projects to an exceptionally high standard.
• Deep knowledge of one or more relevant technologies such as Iceberg, KDB, or Kafka.
• Expertise in distributed systems at scale.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
• Experience with performance optimisation and large‑scale data processing.
• Ability to turn stakeholder requirements into successful outcomes.
• Embracing agentic engineering – willingness and ability to work effectively with AI‑assisted development tools as part of daily workflow.
• Strong academic record and a degree with high mathematical and computing content (e.g., Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or Physics).
• Deep expertise in Java and Python.
• Proficient on Linux platforms and strong understanding of Git.
• Contributions to open‑source projects.
• Experience working with large language models (LLMs).
