Job Description & How to Apply Below
Location: Greater London

We're looking for a Senior Backend Developer with strong .NET expertise to join a high-impact engagement building trading platform capabilities for one of the world's largest hedge funds. You'll bring deep experience in C#, Kafka, and SQL, and be ready to work in a fast-paced, high-stakes financial services environment alongside experienced engineers.

Project overview

This role sits on the Order Management and Execution Management (OMS/EMS) platform for one of the largest hedge funds in the world. The client is expanding the range of asset classes supported by its trading systems, and is scaling up engineering capacity to deliver this. Engineers will initially be embedded within one of the client's five project-aligned teams to learn the domain, codebase, and ways of working.

Once ramped up, the team will transition to operating as a standalone delivery unit, working in parallel with the client's other teams to accelerate onboarding of new asset classes.

Requirements
  • Strong hands-on experience with C# and the .NET ecosystem
  • Practical experience with Kafka (streaming, messaging, event-driven architectures)
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases
  • Proven track record as a senior backend engineer delivering production-grade systems
  • Comfortable working with modern AI-assisted development practices (e.g. Claude Code, agentic AI development)
Will be a plus
  • ReactJS experience or a full-stack profile
  • Background in Financial Services (FSI), particularly trading, OMS/EMS, or capital markets
  • Exposure to high-performance or low-latency systems
Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain components of the OMS/EMS platform supporting the onboarding of new asset classes.
  • Work embedded within one of the client's five project teams initially, to learn the trading domain, architecture, and codebase.
  • Transition into a standalone team delivering asset class onboarding work in parallel with the client's other teams.
  • Write high-quality, well-tested, production-grade code for systems operating in a live trading environment.
  • Apply modern AI-assisted engineering practices (e.g. Claude Code, agentic development workflows) to accelerate delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with client engineers, business analysts, and stakeholders to translate requirements into working software.
  • Contribute to code reviews, technical design discussions, and continuous improvement of engineering practices.
Why this position
  • Work on mission-critical trading infrastructure for one of the largest hedge funds in the world.
  • Exposure to large-scale, high-performance Order Management and Execution Management systems.
  • Build deep domain knowledge across multiple asset classes and financial services engineering.
  • Work using modern, AI-native development practices rather than legacy delivery models.
  • Clear path from an embedded, learning-focused phase to running as an autonomous, standalone delivery team.
