Overview

Over the past decade, digital collecting has become an increasingly important part of how we build and share our collections. Our digital collections are rich in historical and creative significance, including more than 5,000 hours of oral histories and video diaries created during COVID-19, and films by artists such as Jeremy Deller and Zed Nelson. The organization is placing greater focus on preserving the museum’s digital archive through thoughtful strategies and processes.

Role

The Digital Collections Manager is a key role within the Information Resources team. You’ll work closely with Curatorial colleagues to support the ongoing collection of digital materials across different areas, while ensuring our digital collections and records are well cared for and preserved for the future.

Responsibilities

• Manage digital collections within a museum, archive, or heritage setting.

• Assess digital files for long-term preservation and create access and archival copies of material.

• Collaborate with colleagues to support collection activities and apply preservation best practices.

• Contribute to ongoing strategies for digital preservation and records management.

Qualifications and Skills

• Experience of managing digital collections within a museum, archive, or heritage setting.

• Up-to-date knowledge of developments in digital preservation.

• Strong attention to detail and collaborative approach to working with others.

• Ability to assess and preserve digital materials for long-term access.
