The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Ruby Developer to join a high-profile government programme delivering critical digital services. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on developer who can rapidly integrate into an established agile team and make an immediate impact.

Working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and enhancing scalable applications while championing engineering best practices and supporting junior team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain applications using Ruby on Rails
  • Deliver high-quality, well-tested code following Test-Driven Development (TDD) principles
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, delivery managers, and other technical specialists
  • Contribute to technical discussions, architecture decisions, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Participate in code reviews and help promote engineering excellence across the team
  • Support and mentor other developers where required
  • Ensure solutions align with government standards around security, accessibility, and service delivery
  • Proven experience operating at Senior or Lead Developer level
  • Strong commercial expertise with Ruby on Rails
  • Solid background working within TDD and modern software engineering practices
  • Previous experience delivering projects within the Public Sector or Government
  • Good understanding of GDS standards, digital service delivery, accessibility, and security requirements
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Demonstrable experience working effectively within multidisciplinary agile teams
  • Collaborative approach with the ability to quickly integrate into established delivery teams
  • Experience working within large-scale government digital transformation programmes
