Senior Automation Engineer

Our Client is a leading global financial markets infrastructure and data provider. Their purpose is driving financial stability, empowering economies and enabling customers to create sustainable growth.

Project is a strategic automation and operational resilience initiative focused on automating 350+ manual operational jobs that people are currently doing by hand.

Some are complex workflows. Some are simple. Some live in Excel. Some are just lines in a spreadsheet. The format doesn't matter - what matters is automating them to reduce operational risk, effort, and error.

We're building automation solutions on AWS (Lambda, Step Functions, Python) and integrating with existing operational tools (Control-M, monitoring platforms, APIs).

• Engaging directly with operations or business teams to understand their workflows
• Building production automation (Python, AWS Lambda, Step Functions, orchestrators)
• Reducing operational risk and manual effort through intelligent automation

  Competencies:
  
  1. Ownership (CRITICAL)
  Has taken ownership of an operational automation project from concept to delivery. Drove work independently with minimal direction. Delivered production automation that replaced manual work.
  2. Stakeholder Engagement (CRITICAL)
  Comfortable reaching out directly to operations or business teams. Proactively gathers requirements (doesn't wait for them to be handed over). Documents inputs, outputs, dependencies, and checkpoints with the people who do the work.
  3. Operational Automation (CRITICAL)
  Has automated manual operational processes (not tests). Built solutions that replaced or eliminated manual work. Worked with operational/scheduling tools (Control-M, Airflow, Step Functions, Kubernetes jobs, etc.).4. Process Understanding & Design Can understand operational workflows and identify which parts can be automated. Works with ops teams to optimize processes. Designs maintainable, observable, and resilient solutions.
  
  Mandatory Technical
  
  Skills:
• Python
  - Good level of Python. Hands-on production experience.
• AWS Services
  - Lambda, Step Functions, S3, APIs/Event Bridge. Practical, hands-on experience (not certification-only).
• Data Pipelines & Scripting
  - Understanding of data pipelines. Comfort with scripting (Python, Bash, etc.).
• Infrastructure as Code (Ideally) - Terraform, Cloud Formation, or equivalent. Foundational level expected.

• Control-M (ideally but not required – we have strong support on the team)
• Financial services or regulated environment experience
• Operational resilience concepts (SRE, monitoring, alerting)
• AWS advanced services (SNS/SQS, Secrets Manager, Cloud Watch)
• Kubernetes or container orchestration
• Modernizing manual/spreadsheet-based processes
