This role is with one of Dex's trusted partner companies. We work closely with their teams to truly understand their culture, goals, and what they're looking for, so we can match you with the right opportunity and give you context about the role before you commit to a process.
This company builds the control plane for data and AI pipelines, used in production by major enterprises. They tackle the core problem of orchestrating complex data and AI workloads, from scheduling to execution and state management. Their new AI agent control plane is where much of the next year's product focus lies.
You will own the core orchestration engine: the machinery for scheduling, execution, state, retries, concurrency, and cancellation. This isn't a backend role where you hand off infrastructure or QA; you drive features from idea to production, writing the Terraform and fixing what you ship. You'll design for highly variable load, focusing on capacity, back-pressure, and isolation for systems whose busiest minute looks nothing like their average one.
Thework
- Own the core orchestration engine, managing scheduling, execution, state, retries, concurrency, and cancellation.
- Design and implement robust systems for highly variable load, focusing on capacity, back-pressure, and isolation.
- Drive features from concept to production, including infrastructure as code (Terraform) and operational monitoring.
- Build out the AI-native layer, solving novel problems in AI agent orchestration.
- Deploy to production multiple times a day, maintaining high standards for peer review and CI.
- Deep production experience with Python, making architectural decisions for services, not just scripts.
- Proven judgment in distributed systems: retries, idempotency, at-least-once delivery, state machines, and debugging production-only race conditions.
- Treat infrastructure as part of the job; experience with IaC (e.g., Terraform) and serverless architectures in a cloud environment.
- Strong data modelling instinct, understanding trade-offs between different database paradigms.
- Bias to shipping: you prioritize impact, distinguishing between quick fixes and problems requiring deeper thought, without over-engineering.
This is a rare, high-ownership backend role at a company solving genuinely hard problems in data and AI orchestration. Dex helps you cut through the noise: apply once, get matched to this and similar roles, and receive a full brief before any interviews. Skip the cold outreach and get straight to what matters.
