Senior Platform & Infrastructure Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Platform & Infrastructure Engineer to join a small, collaborative Platform and Infrastructure Engineering team. This is a senior individual-contributor role for a hands-on engineer who enjoys designing, building and operating secure, resilient and scalable platforms that enable development teams to deliver software safely, efficiently and reliably.

Working closely with the Platform & Infrastructure Team Head, Group technology teams and development colleagues, you will play a key role in shaping and delivering the UK cloud strategy. You will take ownership of complex technical initiatives, from initial design and implementation through to operational handover, while helping to establish engineering standards and drive continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

* Design, build and operate secure, resilient and scalable Microsoft Azure infrastructure, supporting application delivery across cloud and on-premise environments.

* Lead the design, configuration and continuous improvement of CI/CD pipelines, including build, test, deployment and release automation.

* Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code standards and reusable Terraform patterns to promote consistency, security and maintainability.

* Implement robust delivery automation using Git Lab, Kubernetes, Terraform and modern Dev Ops and platform-engineering practices.

* Establish engineering standards, reference architectures, guardrails and reusable platform services that support operational excellence.

* Partner with architects, development teams and Group technology colleagues on cloud adoption and application-modernisation initiatives, including environment design, migration planning and deployment automation.

* Take ownership of complex technical designs, implementations and operational issues, ensuring solutions are secure, supportable, cost-effective and operationally ready.

* Embed security, resilience, compliance, monitoring and performance considerations throughout platform design and delivery.

* Contribute to technical reviews, knowledge sharing and team capability development, maintaining high-quality architecture documentation, runbooks and operational procedures.

* Support incident and problem resolution, change planning, capacity and performance improvement, and the evaluation of new technologies where they deliver measurable value.

About You

You will be an experienced platform or infrastructure engineer with a strong hands-on background in Azure, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD and cloud platform engineering. You will be comfortable working across both cloud and on-premise environments and have a proven ability to design and implement reliable, automated infrastructure solutions.

You will bring strong technical problem-solving skills, a pragmatic approach to engineering and a commitment to security, resilience and continuous improvement. You will also be confident collaborating with architects, developers and Group IT teams, communicating complex technical concepts clearly and contributing to shared engineering standards.

This role does not include formal people-management responsibility, but offers the opportunity to provide technical leadership, influence engineering direction and help shape the future of the platform estate.
