36 Labs is a seed-stage startup that started out of the UCL Machine Learning lab. We bootstrapped to 10 people, and now we're on the next leg of growth.

AI can generate almost any form of media, but it still can't judge what captures human attention. AI-generated content on social platforms is growing fast, every creative workflow will be agent-assisted or fully agentic. Our work is improving how models reason about creative decisions, learning from how audiences respond to content.

Your main focus is accelerating how we use AI across every part of the business: engineering, research, content and operations. You'll find where AI can take work off people's plates, build the tools and agents to do it, and get the team using them. You'll also ship production code alongside our engineers, so you get real exposure to how we build.

AI writes a lot of what we ship, so the bottleneck isn't typing, it's judgment and taste, and we'll help you build both fast. You'll get a large token budget to run your own experiments.

• Finding where AI can speed up work across engineering, research, content and operations, and building the tools, agents and workflows to do it
• Getting the team using them: setting up, documenting and improving the AI tools we rely on day to day
• Running experiments with new models, tools and agent setups, and bringing what works back into how we work
• Shipping production code alongside our engineers, with someone close by to help you level up

• Solid fundamentals in Python and/or Type Script, and projects you've built or worked on in your own time
• Extremely AI-pilled: you're constantly working with models and have been experimenting with the latest tools and paradigms to get the most out of them
• Quick to pick up new tools, and you have opinions on which ones are worth it
• Curious about how people outside engineering work, and keen to make their work faster/more automated
• Hungry and resourceful, whether you're studying, recently graduated, or self-taught
