Role Purpose

The successful and safe delivery of the programmed work/ transit shift of Rail Grinders, Rail Milling and Tampers. You will be competent to drive C21 & C44 Rail Grinders and Rail Milling Machine and will be trained to drive other types of OTM plant.

• Drive and route conduct the machines safely and effectively
• Report any machine defects to the Grinding Supervisor and/or Maintenance Supervisor, where appropriate
• Work safely and in accordance with Colas Rail Services Operations procedures
• Assist as required
• Prepare and carry out safety inspections on plant before trains enter service
• Assist in maintaining quality systems and stabling database by monitoring, reviewing, and recommending updates
• Undertake route learning/refreshing as required; maintain and expand route knowledge base
• Drive all other OTM equipment such as Rail Milling Machine and Tampers
• Keep all routes current via the Colas Rail route app
• Report issues in real time to Colas control
• Compile detailed reports/statements for any incidents or accidents immediately
• Be flexible due to the nature of operations
• Support organisational changes to meet operational requirements
• Undertake other reasonable duties as required

• Work to applicable Safety Plans and Method Statements
• Comply with Section 7 of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
• Submit Close Calls and safety conversations as per procedure

• Ability to drive all types of Rail Grinders and Miller when required
• Driving Licence
