Vessel Scheduler

Overview

We are currently looking for a Vessel Scheduler who will be responsible for the day to day scheduling of vessels berthing at Southampton Docks. You will work with the Planning Manager and Execution Manager to decide on the correct level of resource whilst remaining cost focused, balancing labour requirements and ensuring the operation is run efficiently.

How will you contribute:

• Focal point for the day to day scheduling of the shipping movements at DP World Southampton.
• Build excellent rapport with internal customers, shipping lines, hauliers, rail companies, vessel agencies and harbour authority (including Harbour Master, Pilots, VTSWM’s, Pilots).
• Plan and monitor the daily vessel schedule and landside operations with the aim to achieve all productivity, cost and safety targets.
• Act as a main communication channel between shipping lines and shift manager.
• Identify and address bottlenecks in operations by dynamically allocating resources with forward thinking/look ahead approach.
• Work with the shipping line discuss stows and analyse where improvements could be made to assist productivity.
• Answer queries from Vessel Command, Agencies, Shipping Lines, Government Authorities etc.
• Ensure Vessels working alongside are being worked to their optimum, keeping cranes balanced as required to ensure timely completion.
• Inform Planning Manager on challenges and propose scenario.
• Imprint clear direction to vessel & yard planning.
• Control execution in line with planning strategy.
• Act as field expert for planning & monitoring.

• Strong expertise within a relevant scheduling based role (Shipping/Logistics etc).
• Previous experience in shipping scheduling highly desirable.
• Excellent commercial understanding with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
• Strong problem solver, able to manage and prioritise varied workloads and changing priorities.
• Terminal Operating System knowledge would be advantageous but not essential.
• Knowledge of vessel drafting desirable, not essential.
• Understanding of VTS desirable, not essential.
• Strong IT skills with the ability to analyse data and KPIs.
• Excellent organisation and planning skills.
