Transport Planner

Role Overview

Our client is seeking for an experienced Transport Planner to join a busy logistics operation based in the Heathrow area. The role involves coordinating daily transport activities, ensuring that collections and deliveries are planned efficiently and completed within required deadlines.

Working in a fast-paced environment, the successful candidate will play a key role in organising vehicle schedules, maintaining communication with drivers and internal teams, and ensuring a high level of service is provided to customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the daily planning of a fleet up to 15 vehicles, ensuring all scheduled collections and deliveries are carried out within customer time frames.
  • Maintain regular communication with drivers throughout the day to monitor progress and ensure jobs are completed as planned.
  • Work closely with import and export departments as well as other internal teams to organise airline and customer collections.
  • Keep customers updated on the status of their shipments and address any queries regarding delivery progress.
  • Manage vehicle availability by scheduling servicing, maintenance, and repairs to ensure minimal disruption to operations.
  • Review transport planning methods to ensure the fleet is utilised in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible.
  • Arrange third-party transport providers when workloads exceed the capacity of the in-house fleet.
  • Maintain and update daily operational planning boards and systems, ensuring accurate details such as driver assignments and vehicle registrations are recorded.
  • Monitor shipment inventory and ensure all operational statuses and updates are recorded accurately within internal systems.
  • Produce customer reports detailing collection times, delivery progress, and operational updates where required.
  • Ensure all transport operations comply with relevant industry regulations, legislation, and company procedures.
  • Handle incoming calls and deal with operational enquiries in a professional and timely manner.
Transport Planner Requirements
  • A minimum of three years' experience working within the UK transport or logistics industry, ideally in a transport planning or traffic planning role.
  • Good geographical knowledge of the UK road network.
  • Solid understanding of driver hours regulations and the Working Time Directive.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy operational environment.
  • Experience using transport management or planning systems would be beneficial.
  • A Manager's CPC qualification would be advantageous, although it is not essential.
