. A full, valid UK driving licence is essential for this role as it involves driving between sites to transport medication, specimens and equipment. Days of working:
Variable shifts dependent on business needs – 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The role provides safe, efficient, and responsive portering services across ELFT sites, supporting delivery of facilities services and contributing to a clean, safe, welcoming environment for patients, staff and visitors.
Responsibilities- Deliver and collect goods, consumables, equipment, materials and Trust property across sites.
- Transport cleaning stock, paper products, catering items and supplies to wards and departments.
- Move furniture, equipment and undertake room set‑ups or layout changes.
- Respond to Helpdesk requests promptly and accurately.
- Support catering and domestic teams with reasonable delivery and collection tasks.
- Remove clinical and non‑clinical waste in line with Trust procedures, maintaining safe segregation.
- Carry out light cleaning duties (external areas, spillages, bin areas, entrances, courtyards).
- Assist with linen transportation and curtain changes.
- Receive and sign in contractors; check high‑visibility clothing.
- Conduct or support tool inventory checks.
- Escort contractors throughout the site and ensure safety, tool control and security compliance.
- Report unsafe behaviours or protocol breaches immediately.
- Collect and deliver medication securely, following chain‑of‑custody rules.
- Collect sealed specimens and deliver them to authorised holding or laboratory locations.
- Maintain vehicles, complete logs and ensure safe, timely deliveries.
- Remain contactable via site radio at all times during shifts.
- Use portering equipment safely and report defects.
- Participate in meetings, briefings and mandatory training.
- Uphold confidentiality, security protocols, OCS values and maintain professional behaviour.
- A full, valid UK driving licence (non‑negotiable).
- Right to work in the UK.
- Will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.
- Experience in a similar role is desirable; strong willingness to learn also welcomed.
- Solid understanding of health & safety practices and ability to follow site procedures.
- Strong communication skills and confidence in interacting professionally with staff, patients and contractors.
- Physically capable of performing manual handling tasks, including moving equipment, supplies and furniture.
