Join to apply for the Component Obsolescence and Qualification Engineer role at Intelligent Manufacturing Solutions (IMS)
What if… the connector you specified goes end‑of‑life mid‑design? …an RF amplifier becomes constrained across the supply base? In this role, you turn scenarios like these into success stories by qualifying robust alternates, securing sources, and documenting decisions that keep Digital and RF products on track.
Role focus- Champion reliability and lifecycle requirements for Digital and RF modules through precise component selection for electrical and mechanical assemblies.
- Test, analyze, and select ICs, passives, connectors, and related electronic components to meet performance targets.
- Design and execute component evaluations and formal qualifications mapped to product needs.
- Address obsolescence and shortages: identify sources and manufacturers, propose substitutions, and define qualification strategies for alternates.
- Investigate termination styles, plastic encapsulation options, and component construction processes to de‑risk designs.
- Create and maintain Vendor Identification Drawings, Source Control Drawings, and Altered Item Drawings.
- Build accurate cost analysis forecasts to inform program planning and trade‑offs.
- Complete all required technical and regulatory documentation with precision.
- Lead rigorous verification activities across products, enabling software, and supporting test infrastructure.
- Drive projects to completion on time and within the specified budget.
- Strong component engineering background anchored by theoretical and practical knowledge of electronics, device physics, and semiconductor components.
- Insight into material properties to guide component trade‑offs and selections.
- Proficiency in component test methods and qualification processes aligned to required standards and specifications.
- Strict commitment to quality in testing and decision making.
- Comfort with change—adapting to new requirements and technology advances.
- Clear communication with teammates, stakeholders, and vendors; ability to present coherent reasoning and outcomes.
- Problem‑solving excellence in the face of availability constraints, cost pressures, and quality assurance needs—using logical thinking to navigate complex scenarios and implement effective solutions.
- Ability to contribute independently and within a collaborative, positive team culture.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent education and experience.
- 5+ years of professional experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of electrical component parameters and packaging.
- Demonstrated knowledge of high reliability military component standards and specifications.
By pairing deep component expertise with disciplined documentation, creative sourcing strategies, and rigorous qualification, you will help deliver reliable products that meet demanding specifications—on schedule and within budget.
