Position Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers (KIE) has an opening for a Concrete Engineer. You will be part of our growing Infrastructure Design Department, which includes structural, geotechnical, civil, drainage, roadway, rail, and materials disciplines. This multi‑faced division of Kiewit features best‑in‑class technical expertise focused on the design‑build delivery of infrastructure projects.

The primary role of this position is to provide support, analysis, and design to Kiewit projects, having a direct impact on other teams within the engineering district.

Project involvement of a concrete engineer can be at any stage of a project’s life cycle. Get Work project tasks may include proposal development, Task Force participation, technical proposal design, alternative technical design concept (ATC), and proposal cost estimating support. Build Work tasks include Task Force participation, final design development, concrete troubleshooting, specification development, concrete mix design, testing procedures, thermal control plans, durability and service‑life engineering, construction engineering, and construction operations oversight.

Projects often rely on KIE technical resources, consultants, and/or subcontractors for staffing engineering‑related construction tasks. Typical project deliverables may include technical solutions, design reports, memorandums, and letters—all subject to KIE’s Design Quality Management Plan. Deliverables may also require field technical support with investigations and site‑visit observations during construction.

Concrete Engineering is considered a specialty engineering service and as such has high visibility with Project upper management, where high professionalism is always expected. Project related travel varies but is projected to be approximately 25% and can be anywhere in North America. Continued job‑related learning through Kiewit University, Professional Engineer Continuing Education, and personal professional development is encouraged and expected.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Chief Concrete Engineer in providing and managing concrete technical support.
  • Support with pre‑bid evaluation, design constructability reviews, technical risk assessments, and construction operations work planning (e.g., placing procedures, pumping, constructability reviews, mix design, value engineering, troubleshooting, proposal development, and training).
  • Assist in improving concrete quality and reducing concrete quality issues through proactive engagement with Jobsite personnel.
  • Collaborate in developing concrete‑related design requirements and specifications for construction.
  • Interpret concrete material properties and construction quality results, including process control data.
  • Serve as field engineer during construction when interest and opportunities align.
