Job Summary and Qualifications The Surgical Technician demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to function in the scrub role during surgical procedures performed in the department. The Surgical Technician is experienced in all aspects as aseptic technique, setting up the required equipment and sterile supplies as needed for their assigned cases; pulling cases as needed; and breaking down cases at the end of the procedure.He/she is knowledgeable regarding instrumentation, equipment, and supply needs for all types of surgical procedures. The Surgical Technician may come in contact with medications and therefore must demonstrate understanding of proper medication management and storage as well as maintaining a secure medication environment. The Surgical Technician may rotate to other areas other than surgery, and will perform those duties for which he/she has demonstrated competency.
The Surgical Technician performs delegated duties consistent with his/her scope of practice and functions within the philosophy and overall plan for Sky Ridge Medical Center (SRMC). The Surgical Technician follows and supports SRMC policy and procedures. The Surgical Technician displays positive support for the values and mission of SRMC. The Surgical Technician provides education on procedures, instrumentation, and equipment as needed.
The Surgical Technician demonstrates advanced resource skills for equipment and instruments. The Surgical Technician assists Clinical Nurse Coordinators in case preparation, equipment needs (operating and capital requests), and preference card accuracy. The Surgical Technician may function in the role of preceptor with completion of a SRMC Preceptor Course. Call is required for position.
