Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of Department Chair(s), this position provides administrative support to the Department Chair and faculty, assists in student inquiries, and serves as receptionist to academic departments.
Key Responsibilities- Provide administrative support to the Department Chair(s) to ensure the day‑to‑day operations in departments run smoothly.
- Under Department Chair’s instructions, input class schedule information into the system for graduate and undergraduate programs, reserve rooms for classes, and make changes as necessary.
- Provide administrative support to meet faculty needs. Answer faculty inquiries in accordance with policies and procedures. Inform faculty of any changes in policies and procedures.
- Maintain and update student workers’ work schedules.
- Assist in hiring student workers. Obtain necessary hiring documents required by HR and Payroll offices.
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong interpersonal skills by establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and vendors. They possess a solid working knowledge of office methods, procedures, and practices, coupled with proficiency in Windows, Word, email, spreadsheets, and databases. This individual is capable of performing moderate clerical tasks with independent judgment, accuracy, and speed, while showcasing effective written and oral communication skills.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non‑discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience- Equivalent to four years of administrative support experience required.
- Sedentary work – involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects (10 pounds or less).

CompensationSalary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $4,047 (Step
1) – $5,896 (Step 20) per month.
1.0 time‑base, 40 hours per week.
Duration of AppointmentThis is a temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
