Job SummaryUnder the direction of the Payroll/Implementation Manager for Payroll Services, this position serves as a key member of the Payroll Services team supporting multiple campuses as part of the CSULB Cross‑Campus collaboration project. The incumbent is responsible for processing and auditing a wide range of payroll and absence transactions, including hourly and mid‑month payroll, absence management, time and labor functions, adjustment forms, stipends, and vacation payouts.
Additional responsibilities include providing backup support as well as assisting with special projects across participating campuses. This position requires thorough knowledge of payroll policies, collective bargaining agreements, and data systems, as well as the ability to apply independent judgment and ensure compliance with CSU and State Controller’s Office requirements.
- Absence Management – Oversees absence management processes across participating campuses, ensuring compliance with CSU policies and procedures. Responsibilities include processing separation and transfer documentation, conducting leave audits, managing Alternate Day Off (ADO) payouts, and coordinating time entry communications. Applies expert knowledge of CSU leave benefit programs to monitor and implement accrual rate changes in alignment with systemwide policies and collective bargaining agreements.
- Processing Hourly Payroll – Manages monthly payroll processing for intermittent, casual, student, and salaried employees across participating campuses, ensuring timely submission and compliance with State Controller’s Office (SCO) deadlines, labor laws, and collective bargaining agreement (CBA) provisions. Duties include verifying time approvals, uploading data to People Soft, auditing payroll entries, reconciling registers via the California Information Reporting System (CIRS), and coordinating with departments to resolve discrepancies.
Also co‑processes mid‑month payroll for various employee groups, ensuring accurate submission, compliance, and reconciliation in alignment with SCO standards. - Stipend Processing – Manages stipend processing for faculty and staff across participating campuses, including validating documentation, verifying charge locations, and entering data into People Soft/CMS. Coordinates with analysts to ensure timely transmission to the State Controller’s Office (SCO), audits payments for accuracy, resolves discrepancies, and provides expert guidance on stipend‑related inquiries.
- Payroll Adjustments – Processes and audits post‑deadline payroll and absence adjustments for hourly and salaried employees across participating campuses, ensuring accuracy, compliance with labor laws and collective bargaining agreements, and timely submission to the State Controller’s Office (SCO). Responsibilities include reviewing adjustment requests, correcting discrepancies, and responding to employee inquiries regarding payroll changes.
