ABOUT THE POSITION

Long Beach Community College District is currently seeking one (1) full-time tenure track Communication Studies Professor commencing in the Fall 2026 semester. This assignment also includes curriculum and program development, participation in department, division, college committees, and participatory governance activities. Faculty are expected to collaborate across disciplines, to make effective use of student support resources, to participate in ongoing professional development, and to assume leadership roles both within the department and in the institution.

The teaching assignment may be at the Liberal Arts campus, the Trade, Technology, and Community Learning Campus and/or at other teaching locations and may be a full term (16-weeks) and/or compressed assignment (12-week, 8-week, or shorter.) The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, onsite and/or off-campus and is subject to change as needed to serve student needs. The ideal candidate for this position embraces the overall mission of the Long Beach Community College District, with a focused commitment to excellence in teaching and student success through the discipline of Communication Studies.

  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to integrating new technologies into the learning process, including but not limited to interactive technologies for on campus and on-line courses.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s in speech, speech broadcasting, telecommunications, rhetoric, communication, communication studies, speech communication or organizational communication,
    OR
  • Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in drama/theater arts, mass communication or English,
    OR
  • The equivalent

Evidence of a sensitivity, understanding, and ability to manage the classroom environment AND effectively provide instruction to community college students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

Desirable Qualifications
  • MA in Communication Studies or related field.
  • Recent experience in teaching college-level transfer courses related to public speaking, interpersonal communication, intercultural communication, small group communication, leadership, communication theory, persuasion, oral interpretation of literature, and/or argumentation and debate.
