The Boeing Global Services (BGS) C-17 Avionics & Flight Controls (AVFC) team is seeking a mid‑career (Level
3) Electrical Engineer to perform Design, Integration and Test activities in support of current and future development programs.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the Long Beach, CA facility.

This position reports to the Avionics Capability Delivery Manager for the AVFC organization. A key attribute is the ability to accomplish assigned engineering tasks under minimal instruction, and to articulate progress and help needed across geographically diverse teams. Areas of execution include software development, laboratory test, hardware integration and qualification. Cyber security is also a responsibility.

Position Overview

The successful candidate will possess a wide range of Software Development experience throughout the development lifecycle. Software and hardware integration will be a staple, but this is not full‑stack software development. The target applications are non‑networked computers interacting with Avionics hardware via military and communication buses. Avionics buses such as Mil‑Standard‑1553B and ARINC‑429, as well as commercial buses such as Ethernet, RS‑232, RS‑422, and USB are heavily used.

Working with internal and external customers to ensure all requirements are met, possessing a disciplined engineering method, and exhibiting strong communication skills are all required for the position. The capacity to rapidly develop an understanding of the products is essential, facilitating a swift transition into a position where one can contribute effectively. The selected candidate will comprehend project timelines and will be capable of providing status on assignments.

The Employer will not sponsor applicants for employment visa status.

  • Possessing a strong commitment to completing projects on schedule while ensuring first‑time quality.
  • Experience with aircraft communications buses and protocols – knowledge of how to interface with aircraft LRUs, interpret binary data and handle custom communication protocols over avionics buses such as ARINC 429, MIL‑STD‑1553B.
  • Data parsing and visualization skills – able to parse raw aircraft LRU data and display it in a meaningful way for engineering or diagnostic purposes.
