Position: Field-Based Adolescent Therapist

Field-Based Adolescent Therapist

Roots Through Recovery, a trauma‑focused outpatient treatment center serving adults and adolescents in Long Beach and the South Los Angeles area, seeks a full‑time associate therapist (AMFT, ACSW, or APCC) for its field‑based program in community schools.

Job Summary

In this role, you will diagnose and treat substance use and co‑occurring mental health disorders, address trauma, teach communication and healthy coping skills, and assist patients in addressing maladaptive behaviors. You will also guide adolescents through crises, facilitate group and individual treatments, and collaborate with school staff and community resources.

Responsibilities
  • Travel to community schools in the south and south central Los Angeles area.
  • Establish open lines of communication with adolescents facing substance use and co‑occurring mental health disorders.
  • Provide individual therapy and family therapy for adolescents and/or their family members.
  • Deliver trauma‑focused therapy for adolescents with co‑occurring disorders.
  • Use evidence‑based methods to facilitate group and individual treatments.
  • Facilitate clinically‑oriented group therapy for individuals with co‑occurring disorders.
  • Develop, implement, and review treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with school counselors, administrative staff, and additional treatment providers and resource agencies.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of patient information and treatment plans; ensure timely completion.
  • Collaborate with team members and the clinical director to provide quality care.
  • Adhere to all facility and licensing standards.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or higher in counseling, social work, or a similar field.
  • Current and unrestricted associate license for marriage and family therapy, clinical social work, or professional counseling in California.
  • Previous experience as a mental health therapist.
  • Experience working with adolescents with substance use disorders.
  • Experience with PTSD and complex trauma preferred.
  • Training in EMDR preferred – training will be provided if not present.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized and self‑starter.
  • Bi‑lingual in Spanish is a plus.
