Position Summary

Under general supervision of the clinical supervisor, utilizes best practices to perform routine neurodiagnostic testing procedures at neonatal, pediatric and adult levels. Performs electroencephalograms (EEG), video telemetry seizure monitoring, long term epilepsy monitoring (LTM), continuous EEG monitoring (CEEG), and ambulatory outpatient studies. Performs visual evoked potential (VER), brainstem auditory evoked response (BAER), and somatosensory evoked potential (SSEP). Participates in the on-call, weekend rotation, and holiday coverage rotation.

Completes daily assignments, notifies management of supply and equipment needs, and maintains and cleans laboratory and equipment. Participates in the review and annotating of long-term EEG studies, archiving, and technical support.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
  • Provides excellent customer service by demonstrating respect for patient's right to personal dignity and their cultural, psychosocial and spiritual values. Promotes the medical center's vision and value statements by performing all duties with respect to the hospitals responsibilities under the law.
  • Performs and documents assessment of patients testing needs through data collection and analysis. Collects pertinent history and physical examination. Makes decisions about testing based on assessment and develops plans for testing utilizing neurodiagnostic protocols and procedures.
  • Actively participates in training students. Participates in cross training taught by clinical supervisor, physicians and peers so that technologists are trained to perform all department procedures.
  • Completes exams in a timely manner, communicating with co-workers, supervisors and patients and/or family.
  • Effectively and respectfully communicates with other health team members and areas of care with regard to the patients plan for testing and evaluation. Coordinates with other members of the health care team to achieve desired goals and outcomes.
  • Participates in efforts to improve the performance of the neurodiagnostic department and organization. Provides supervisor and other clinical leaders with information on issues that pertain to patient safety, and opportunities to improve outcomes in testing procedures and hospital environment.
  • Applies knowledge of policies and procedures designed to provide a cost conscious, safe, functional, and effective environment for patients, staff, and other individuals in the hospital, follows policies for safety, fire, hazardous materials and infection control.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements Qualifications/

Work Experience:
  • Completion of Neurodiagnostic Technology program required.
  • Associate's / Technical Degree in neurodiagnostic technology or equivalent combination of education/experience required.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience working in an acute care facility required.
Education/Licensure/Certification:
  • Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist certification from the American Board of Registered Electroneuro diagnostic Technologists (ABRET) required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Registered Evoked Potential Technologist (R.EPT.) from the American Board of Registered Electroneuro diagnostic Technologists (ABRET) preferred.
