Platform Engineer, Sr. Principal

Your Role

The Developer and Employee Experience team is responsible for the creation of the standards and automation pipelines that enable our partnering IT teams to build, release, and manage their systems. We are setting the path for how we’ll migrate to the Cloud and ensure that we are guiding the movement to a more modern Agentic AI driven Dev Ops operating model.

The Sr. Principal Platform Engineer will report to the Vice President of Developer & Employee Experience. In this role you will drive the creation and maintenance of enterprise technology capabilities and technology patterns to enable our teams to move to the Cloud. You will also define integrated roadmaps that guide our strategic investments to support our enterprise initiatives for Blue Shield of California.

• Requires a college degree or equivalent experience.
• Requires a minimum of 12 years relevant business and IT experience with a wide array of cloud services across Azure, GCP, or AWS.
• 5+ years of architecture practice experience.
• Expert architect who champions and continuously drives the advancement of the architecture operating model, governance, processes, policies, standards, and framework for the Enterprise Architecture capability.
• Creates, refines, and puts into practice repeatable architecture frameworks and processes to enable complex cross‑functional initiatives related to major business initiatives.
• Provides vision and strategic direction for one or more architecture domains (business, information, application, and technology).
• Develops and maintains strategies and solutions for the enterprise in collaboration with executive leadership across the business and IT.
• Possesses the excellent interpersonal skills necessary to articulate the value of a strong enterprise architecture function to critical business stakeholders.
• Advanced knowledge and experience with cloud technologies, defining technology standards and implementation roadmaps for one or more of the following:
  Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and Amazon Web Services.
• In‑depth knowledge of implementing and leveraging AI, Agentic AI and LLM models.
• Demonstrated proficiency in understanding cloud life cycle methodologies.
• Proficiency in at least one relevant programming language (Python, C#, Java, etc.).
• In‑depth knowledge of multiple cloud hosting providers, including Microsoft Azure and AWS.
• Kubernetes experience strongly desired.
