Position: Peer Supporter, Peer Respite (Day Shift)

Peer Supporter, Hacienda of Hope (Dayshift)

Location: Hacienda of Hope, Long Beach

Hours: Monday through Friday 9:00 am—5:00 pm (shifts may include evenings, nights, weekends, holidays)

Pay Range: $47,125—$65,975

FLSA Status: Non‑exempt, Full‑time 36.25 hr. Monday‑Friday (some weekends)

Reports to: Program Manager

Summary

Works under general supervision of the Program Manager and/or Program Director. Provides peer‑to‑peer support, self‑help services, and information to guests. Reserved for individuals who self‑identify as having lived experience in the mental health system.

Responsibilities
  • Provide hands‑on life coaching, training, mentoring, and support for clients, including basic daily living skills (hygiene, meal prep, home care, medication management, public transportation).
  • Serve as a bridging service for clients transitioning to or from other programs, empowering them to access health, housing, substance use, and mental health resources.
  • Facilitate outreach and engagement, linking guests to community resources and informing community agencies of program services.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop Wellness Service Plans containing peer‑support or self‑help linkages; strategize outreach for isolated clients.
  • Model self‑advocacy and provide supportive assistance to help guests obtain and maintain housing, health benefits, and other entitlements.
  • Lead research, planning, coordination, and facilitation of structured workshops, peer‑support and self‑help groups, wellness activities, employment or education support, recreation, and social outings aligned with client interests.
  • Conduct intake assessments and registration for guests, inform them of house rules, and ensure policy adherence.
  • Screen potential guests for admission eligibility.
  • Document peer‑support services with COS billing notes.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation for service delivery.
  • Create a culturally diverse, respectful, and supportive environment that accepts differences in gender, ethnicity, culture, sexuality, race, language, religion, age, disability, family composition, and socio‑economic status.
  • Perform daily cleaning duties (sweeping, mopping, dishwashing, vacuuming, bathroom cleaning) to keep the environment positive and cooperative.
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with staff, guests, community partners, and outside agencies to foster effective teamwork.
  • Participate in required training, meetings, and community life to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
  • Model PRPSN’s approach, mission, and core values in all communication and correspondence.
Skills / Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in peer support, peer advocacy, or self‑help;
    Peer Advocate Certificate required or must be obtained within six months.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining collaborative professional relationships.
  • Flexibility and availability to work at both respite locations as needed.
  • Adaptability to diverse work environments and team settings.
  • Reliable transportation;
    Class C driver’s license; personal vehicle insurance proof (30 k/60 k liability) upon hire and ongoing.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate across multiple sites.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Commitment to quality support and professionalism across locations.
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish (speaking, reading, writing).
  • Basic computer and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Knowledge or rapid acquisition of local community resources.
  • Ability to shift between evening, night, weekend, and holiday schedules.
  • Physical ability to bend, stoop, lift/push up to 25 lbs, and stand/move intermittently throughout the workday.
Physical Demands

Must be able to bend, stoop, lift and push up to 25 lbs, stand, and move repeatedly during the workday.
