Senior Software Engineer, Enterprise Applications

At Vast, our mission is to contribute to a future where billions of people are living and thriving in space. We are building artificial gravity space stations to enable long-term stays in space. Our initial crewed space habitat, Haven-1, is planned to launch into low Earth orbit in May 2026. We are looking for a dedicated team member to help build the software that will support the design and operation of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations.

This is a full-time, exempt position located in Long Beach.

Responsibilities:

• Design and implement web applications using modern frontends and application servers that consume APIs and micro-services in a heterogeneous environment
• Design and implement backends including data modeling, APIs, and supporting data pipelines
• Rapidly iterate on tooling and design new applications as the company grows
• Influence and adopt software practices and patterns that will scale to a large codebase and team

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, math, an engineering discipline, or equivalent work experience
• 6+ years of software development or relevant industry experience
• Experience building, shipping, and supporting complex, data-intensive full-stack software applications

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Experience working on ambiguous problems
• Experience working with multiple programming languages
• Experience with API design
• Experience with one or more of the following platforms and frameworks

  • FastAPI

Pay Range:

• Software Engineer, Enterprise Applications: $125,000 - $171,500
• Senior Software Engineer, Enterprise Applications: $155,000 - $196,000
• Staff Software Engineer, Enterprise Applications: $177,600 - $235,500

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Base salary will vary based on knowledge, education, skills, experience, business needs, and market demand.
