Position SummaryThe Waterfront Specialist supports camp programs and activities in compliance with GSGLA safety standards. Responsibilities include assisting with activity implementation and supervision of all waterfront programming.
Marine Landing Day CampMarine Landing is a waterfront facility with its own private beach. Daily activities for campers include kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding and swimming. Due to the nature and number of aquatic activities, every staff member at Marine Landing is required to be lifeguard certified. Training is provided before camp begins, if needed. This camp is the perfect location for those who have a strong comfort in the water, want to spend their summer outside and make friends and memories that will last a lifetime.
The camp operates with daily exposure to various weather conditions and animals such as bugs, raccoons, and other wilderness animals common to the area.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Assist in management of Marine Landing’s waterfront area and all water‑related program activities.
- Oversee care, storage, and maintenance of all waterfront equipment.
- Ensure area and equipment are safe, clean, and well‑maintained.
- Monitor and provide feedback to staff who are facilitating waterfront programs.
- Supervise all waterfront activities to ensure camper safety.
- Ensure lifeguards provide surveillance to camp standards.
- Act as lifeguard when needed.
- Understand and implement appropriate response to changes in water, weather, or other conditions affecting the waterfront.
- Lead swim tests to evaluate swimming abilities of campers and staff.
- Assist with planning and implementing lifeguarding certifications and weekly in‑service trainings.
- Lead Extended Care programs for campers.
- Function as an Acting Director during the camp’s Before Care (6:45 am–8:00 am) or After Care (4:30–6:00 pm) programs.
- Create and implement extended care program activities for campers who require supervision outside of traditional camp hours.
- Provide a safe and enjoyable program that complies with GSGLA, state, and industry standards.
- Adhere to all safety and security protocols and ensure protocols are followed by camp staff.
- Provide outstanding customer service to families.
- Be an inspiring role model by communicating clearly, building strong relationships, encouraging inclusivity, connecting with others, and motivating youth.
- Participate as a member of the camp administrative team by supporting the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the camp operations.
- Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, providing support and guidance to those assigned as leaders.
- Share observations and improvement suggestions to the Outdoor Program Supervisor relating to camp program and staff performance.
- Participate in supporting evening programs, special events, and other activities or functions involving the entire camp.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of staff training.
- Attend, participate in, and lead staff meetings as required.
- Assist where needed with camper “check‑in” and “check‑out”.
- Other duties as assigned.
