GENERAL STATEMENT OF FUNCTION:

Officers are responsible for the safety and security of all Faculty, Students and Visitors.

Responsibilities
  • All officers will answer directly to the Chief of Police.
  • Ensure safety of campus community by enforcing Mississippi state laws and campus rules and regulations, using appropriate procedures.
  • Complete and submit all required reports, logs, and forms.
  • Must be available to work all shift and weekends. This includes sporting events and any other event college wide.
  • Arrive on time for duty and be well groomed, clean, and neat in uniform.
  • Officer must attend all training and meetings as prescribed by the Chief of Police.
  • Officers will be required to patrol the campus, including corridors, buildings, and parking lots.
  • Officers will escort Faculty and Students when needed.
  • Officers will be required to report any hazards to the MGCCC Maintenance Department.
  • Officers must be able to type written reports in the college data base and be able to complete the report by the end of his or her shift.
  • Ability to perform physically active duties (walking campus, directing traffic, and lift at least 20 lbs.).
  • Officers must be able to handle themselves in a professional manner when dealing with Students or the public.
  • Officers will unlock and lock the campus on a daily basis, and may be called to unlock offices for Faculty and for events.
  • Officers must be able to work independently or as a member of a team.
  • Perform public relations tasks such as provide directions to visitors and assist the campus community whenever possible.
  • Manage the college fleet vehicles.
  • Assist in the supervision of student activities when requested by appropriate administrators.
  • Prepare all necessary evidence for Campus Judicial hearings and/or criminal court.
  • Investigate campus crimes and incidents.
  • Monitor and enforce all traffic and parking regulations.
  • Issue parking decals and ’s to faculty and students.
  • Make bank deposits as needed.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with other law enforcement and emergency response agencies.
  • Perform criminal background checks.
  • Monitor video surveillance cameras
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police and Dean of Business Services.
  • Mandatory Qualifications
    • M1:
      Hold a current Professional Certificate awarded by the Board on Law Enforcement Standards and Training of the State of Mississippi. (Qualified Mississippi Law Enforcement Officer under the Provisions of Chapter 474 General Laws of Mississippi. 1981).
    • M2:
      Ability to perform physically active duties (walking the campus, directing traffic, lifting at least 20 pounds).
    • M3:
      Exceptional communication and customer skills.
    • M4:
      Demonstrate experience in the use of computers and related software.
    • M5:
      Pass a background investigation.
    Desirable Qualifications
    • D1:
      Three-years law enforcement experience.
    • D2:
      First Aid, CPR, AED, hazardous materials and/or other emergency response training.
    • D3:
      Experience in a community college or educational setting.
    • D4:
      Associate of Science Degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
    • D5:
      Documented investigative training and experience.
