Directly supervised by Teacher and formally evaluated by Building Principal

The primary function of this position is to assist the classroom teacher in the achievement of curriculum objectives by working with individual students and/or small groups. Clerical and other duties necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the classroom will be assigned as necessary by the individual classroom teacher and/or building principal. Paraprofessional must be able to move, bend, squat and kneel while assisting children.

Ten-month hourly pay employee

Evaluated annually by the building principal

• Administers, scores, and records such achievement and diagnostic tests, not pertaining to State Assessments, as the teacher recommends for individual students.
• Work with the individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced by the classroom teacher and all appropriate special subject teachers.
• Assists the teacher in developing and implementing strategies for the reinforcement of materials or skills to meet the individual needs of the student.
• Guides independent study, enrichment work and remedial work as assigned by the teacher.
• Checks notebooks, corrects papers and make-up work as assigned by the teacher.
• Assists with such large group work activities as drill work, reading aloud and storytelling, as assigned by the teacher.
• Alerts the classroom teacher to any and all problems of special information regarding individual students.
• Serves as a source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
• Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information as is expected of all school personnel.
• Participates in the in-service training and faculty meetings as assigned.
• Attends parent/teacher conferences when assigned by the principal.
• Addresses specific students’ needs; such as assisting students in dressing, escorting students to the bathroom, providing basic assistance to students to include diapering and other related safety and cleanliness activities.
• Performs other tasks and duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor, the Superintendent of Schools or his designee.
