Job SummaryProvides residents with daily nursing care in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, facility policies and, as directed by nursing leadership, to ensure the highest level of quality care is maintained at all times.
Qualifications- Successful completion of a nursing arts course in an accredited nursing training program with appropriate diploma or certificate, and completion of the Department‑approved nursing assistant competency evaluation (or a United States military training program that includes Basic Nursing Assistant Training content).
- At least 16 years of age, of temperate habits, good moral character, honest, reliable, and trustworthy.
- Provide evidence of employment or occupation, if any, and residence for two years prior to initial employment as a nursing assistant.
- Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
- Must possess a current CPR certificate or become certified within two weeks of employment.
- Demonstrates interest and/or knowledge in caring for the ill, disabled, and elderly and can deal tactfully with customers, family members, visitors, and personnel.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English in an understandable manner.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
- Must be personable, enthusiastic, and personable.
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that enable these senses to function adequately so that the position’s requirements can be fully met.
- Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, visitors, personnel, and support agencies.
- Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
- Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, young, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people.
- May be required to lift, push, pull, and move equipment, supplies, etc., in excess of fifty (50) pounds throughout the day.
- Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
- Ensure that all nursing procedures, protocols, and dress code are followed in accordance with established policies.
- Provide assistance with activities of daily living to a specific number of residents and/or as directed by the staff nurse.
- Assist in developing a written plan of care for each customer that identifies problems/needs.
- Attend and actively participate in resident care plan conferences, Resident Council, and/or Family Council when invited.
- Report all concerns and complaints made by the customer or their family to the Administrator.
- Make rounds to assure customers are safe and comfortable.
- Maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the department.
- Participate in In‑service Education Programs.
- Assist in implementing and maintaining an effective orientation program for new employees.
- Recommend to the Director of Nursing the equipment and supply needs of the department.
- Inventory and store customers’ personal possessions.
- Assist customers with packing personal possessions when transferred or discharged.
- Participate in and receive the nursing report upon reporting for duty.
- Maintain intake and output records as instructed; check and report bowel movements and character of stools.
- Make occupied and unoccupied beds, change bed linens, and straighten rooms, closets, and drawers. Notify housekeeping if mattress needs cleaning or replacement.
- Answer call lights promptly, answer telephone calls as needed, and run errands as requested.
- Obtain blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, heights, and weights as needed.
