GENERAL SUPERINTENDENT
PRIMARY
PURPOSE:
The General Superintendent provides overall leadership and direction for field operations across multiple heavy/civil construction projects. This role ensures all Zak Dirt projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards, contract requirements and regulatory guidelines. The General Superintendent works closely with project managers, field supervisors, subcontractors and client representatives to maintain consistent quality, schedule adherence and strong jobsite performance.
COMPENSATION$125,000 – $150,000 plus Employer paid health benefits for Employee and dependents
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Develop long-term operational strategies to support business and project goals
- Oversees multiple projects simultaneously; ensures the efficient use of personnel, equipment and materials across all projects.
- Coordinate and support multiple project superintendents, foreman and field crews offering guidance, mentorship, and proactive problem-solving
- Assists project teams in planning and execution, reviews scopes, budgets and projects progress
- Oversee field staffing needs and coordinates manpower between projects as needed
- Conduct regular site visits to review progress, resolve challenges, verify quality and assess resource needs
- Ensure all work meets or exceeds engineering specifications, contract requirements, and company quality standards
- Attend all required meetings including job progress meetings, weekly planning meetings and others.
- Review productivity reports with project teams and recommend changes or adjustments.
- Compliance with all company policies and procedures
- Uphold compliance with all safety policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned
- 10+ years of experience in heavy/civil construction, including roadway/DOT, earthwork, utilities , structures or related scopes
- 5+ years in a field construction leadership role
- Strong understanding of construction means and methods, plans, specifications and sequencing for heavy/civil work
- Ability to plan detailed construction tasks including schedules, budgets, safety, quality and resource needs
- Ability to analyze and problem solve difficult situations >
- Strong management skills including effective communication, conflict management, and prioritization skills
- Strong computer, writing and organizational skills
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and work out of town (if required)
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License and insurable driving record
Understanding of construction budgets and techniques to improve productivity.
- Required High School diploma or GED.
- B.S in Construction Management a plus
- 3 + years’ experience doing publicly funded work (preferred)
- OSHA 10 Hour Safety (preferred)
- This position requires the ability to communicate in English with co-workers, clients and the general public.
- This job requires the ability to do and understand complex math equations.
- Standing and walking on uneven surfaces for long periods
- Work functions require the ability to sit, stand, and ride in vehicles for long periods of time, as well as the physical ability and mobility to access equipment
- Ability to push/pull equipment parts or materials up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to lift/carry equipment parts or materials up to 50 lbs.
Ability to climb into and out of equipment/vehicles - Working in office environments including sitting for extended periods of time and looking at computer screens
Combination of outside work and office environment. Outdoor work exposed to variant weather conditions (extreme heat, cold, rain, snow) and muddy ground conditions. Indoor work environment includes changing office temperatures, extended desk and screen time.
