The types of exciters being replaced include potential source, bus-fed, brushless, DC rotating, and partial/full compound.
The replacement EX2100e excitation system sizes range from 35A voltage regulators to 8000A full static multi-bridges.
Strong technical management and customer communication skills are essential. A solid understanding of power electronics and generator applications is required.
The Lead Engineer/Technologist will be responsible for providing technical support to sales and for the technical execution of system engineering, hardware, and software generation from order hand-off to commissioning. This includes supporting the commissioning team.
This is a global business with regional engineering teams supporting the factory-based team.
In this role, you will provide technical leadership, coordinate with regional engineering resources to gather field data, support customer meetings, and assist during commissioning.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Providing technical direction to less experienced engineers within the global team
- Collaborating with product development and sustainment engineers for continuous improvement
- Supporting customer issue resolution and critical technical support
- Participating in internal and customer meetings as the technical owner/leader
- Reviewing projects, identifying technical risks, and executing risk mitigation plans
- Developing excitation and HMI software, including communication interfaces
- Conducting customer-witnessed Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), as required
- Providing technical support to global field services during commissioning
- Owning projects and meeting goals with minimal supervision
- Working effectively in a team environment
- Being the technical owner of excitation projects
- Managing multiple project assignments simultaneously
- Exhibiting excellent communication skills (oral and written)
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university or college
- Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience with hardware and/or software control systems
Eligibility Requirements:
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 15% of the time
- BSEE or MSEE in Electrical Engineering
- Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent quality certification
- Experience with Client’s Steam Turbine or Gas Turbine systems
- Experience integrating multiple discipline software systems
- Experience with commissioning of EX2100/EX2100e Exciters
- Experience with commissioning of LS2100/LS2100e Static Starters
- Experience with EX2000/Generrex/Alterrex Exciters and MKV/MKVI/MKVIe Turbine Controllers
- Familiarity with generator protection philosophies
- Experience with non-client excitation applications
- Experience with SAP, Control
ST, Cimplicity, Creo, and other client tools
