Overview

Terracon is a 100 percent employee-owned multidiscipline consulting firm offering materials, environmental, geotechnical, facilities, and other engineering services. This role supports field and laboratory testing of construction materials and reporting results to project teams.

General Responsibilities

• Perform field and/or laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (e.g., soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel).
• Communicate with project manager, engineering technicians, client representatives, contractor’s representatives, and others regarding site testing requirements and results.
• Transport material samples with identifying documentation to the laboratory for testing and analysis.
• Prepare and submit data and observations in written and digital reports for daily transmittal to the Terracon Project Manager.
• Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas; assist with scheduling and dispatch of technicians to project sites.
• Adhere to strict safety standards and participate in pre-task planning.

Responsibilities

• Performs testing, observation, and inspection as directed in accordance with training and procedures.
• Provides clear documentation of findings and results.
• Performs basic data analysis to verify accuracy before submission to the Project Manager.
• Communicates information to the Project Manager and other personnel as directed.
• Supports higher-level technicians on complex tasks.
• Maintains assigned equipment and related calibration.
• Follows safety rules and practices for all projects and reports safety issues to management.
• Maintains quality standards on all projects.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 1–2 years of relevant experience or equivalent training.
• Experience with laptop use and Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving history.

Preferred Certifications

• NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing (asphalt, concrete, soils) or Geotechnical categories.
• ICC certification in one or more of:
  Reinforced Concrete, Spray-applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post-Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel – Bolting, Structural Steel – Welding.
• AWS Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI).
• ASNT Level II in Visual Testing, Magnetic Particle Testing, Dye Penetrant Testing, Radiographic Testing, or Ultrasonic Testing.
• Other relevant national, regional, state, or local certifications related to materials with appropriate experience and examination may be considered.

Required Certifications

• ACI certification in one or more of the following:
  Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I, Concrete Strength Testing Technician.
• Certified in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.
• Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.

Compensation and Perks

Terracon’s Total Rewards program includes compensation, benefits (including employee ownership), recognition, and training & development. The salary range for this position is $22 to $26 per hour. Premium Pay may be available for work outside of normal hours, depending on eligibility and project requirements.
