Overview
Police Recruit - We sponsor your academy and pay you to go. This is an Academy Only Process to identify candidates for Police Recruit Step 1 position(s) Only. We will sponsor you as well as pay you to attend the Police Academy.
Base pay range: $87,312.00/yr
Responsibilities- In a training capacity, protect life and property and manage conflict through the enforcement of applicable laws and City ordinances.
- Control traffic flow, perform investigative work, and participate in and provide support and assistance to special crime prevention, community, problem solving, and enforcement programs.
- Work with the community to resolve conflicts, problems and mutual concerns.
- Perform a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of the Department.
- Participate in the Field Training program after academy to become certified as a Police Officer in the State of Colorado and/or complete the Longmont Field Training Program.
- High school diploma or GED and a minimum of sixty (60) semester hours college-level credit is required.
- College-level credit requirement may be waived with a signed agreement to complete sixty (60) semester hours of college-level credit within five (5) years of hire date.
- Must be at least 21 years of age by the date of hire.
- Possession of a valid Colorado Driver License.
- Meet the minimum qualifications of the Colorado POST Board as defined by CRS 24-31-303, 24-31-304, and 24-31-305.
- Ability to successfully complete a Colorado POST approved basic training academy, obtain and maintain Colorado POST Basic Certification, and complete the Longmont Police Field Training Program within one year.
- Applicants possessing a Colorado POST Basic Certification who do not meet the minimum qualifications for the Lateral Police Officer position will be considered a Police Recruit.
- Obtain certifications in CPR, Intoxilyzer and a variety of less lethal weaponry and tactics.
- Must satisfy Employment Authorization Requirements as outlined on the Colorado POST website.
- New employees may be required to sign an employment agreement for reimbursement of expenses if voluntary resignation occurs within 2 years of hire date.
Selection includes application review, written exam, physical ability course, assessment center, oral & integrity interviews, background investigation including credit history, criminal history & driver’s history, fingerprints, psychological evaluation, medical exam and drug screen.

Work EnvironmentThis is an entry-level class in the Police Officer series, with shifts and hours varying by assignment. New officers will be assigned to Patrol Services Division for around-the-clock patrols, traffic enforcement, and investigations. Officers are assigned to a designated area on overlapping 10-hour watches to ensure coverage.
