In this hands-on role, you will support the development of a scalable, well-controlled tax compliance function covering multiple jurisdictions across North America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region. You will take ownership of recurring indirect tax compliance, including sales and use tax, GST/HST, and VAT, while helping bring key processes in-house. Working closely with Finance, Accounting, Treasury, Legal, People/Payroll, Operations, and external tax advisors, you will ensure accurate filings, timely payments, and reliable financial records.
You will also investigate tax discrepancies, maintain compliance documentation, and support audits, notices, and new jurisdiction registrations. This is an opportunity for a detail-oriented tax professional to strengthen internal controls, improve tax processes through technology, and contribute to a growing international finance function.
- Manage recurring indirect tax compliance across U.S. sales and use tax, Canadian GST/HST, EU VAT/OSS, Australian GST, New Zealand GST, and additional jurisdictions as the business expands.
- Support the transition of recurring indirect tax compliance from external providers to the internal tax team, beginning with the January 2027 compliance cycle.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly tax returns, supporting work papers, and related documentation, ensuring all filings and payments are accurate and completed on time.
- Extract, validate, and reconcile tax data from Net Suite, Avalara, payment processors, and other systems, investigating discrepancies between taxes collected, reported, paid, and recorded in the general ledger.
- Prepare tax journal entries, accruals, adjustments, and balance sheet reconciliations while maintaining complete and organized supporting records.
- Maintain the tax compliance calendar, including registrations, filing frequencies, tax identification numbers, portal access, deadlines, and filing and payment confirmations.
- Coordinate with tax technology providers and external advisors on filings, data requests, tax notices, registrations, taxability questions, and outstanding compliance matters.
- Assist with state, federal, and international tax notices, audits, and information requests, ensuring correspondence and resolutions are properly documented.
- Support federal, state, and international direct tax compliance by gathering data, preparing work papers, and coordinating returns, extensions, estimated payments, and tax provision activities with external advisors.
- Work with People and Payroll teams on state tax registrations, payroll tax notices, withholding compliance, and related filings as needed.
- Research taxability, nexus requirements, filing obligations, and new jurisdiction requirements, supporting registrations and the implementation of new compliance processes.
- Identify opportunities to improve tax processes, documentation, internal controls, and automation through effective use of Avalara, Net Suite, and other tax technology.
- Collaborate with Finance, Accounting, Legal, Treasury, People/Payroll, and Operations on tax-related initiatives, forecasts, exposure analyses, and ad hoc projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field.
- 4–7 years of progressive tax experience in a corporate tax department, public accounting firm, or advisory environment.
- Strong hands-on experience in tax compliance, account reconciliations, and Excel, with the ability to manage recurring monthly and quarterly deadlines across multiple jurisdictions.
- Experience with U.S. sales and use tax and/or international VAT/GST compliance is strongly preferred.
- Experience with Avalara and Net Suite, particularly tax data extraction, reconciliation, and compliance workflows, is strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting corporate income tax compliance and coordinating with external tax advisors is an advantage.
- CPA, Enrolled Agent (EA), Master of Science in Taxation (MST), or a comparable tax or accounting credential is preferred but not required.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail and accountability for deliverables.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across finance and operational teams as well as with external advisors.
