This regular position is available for the  school year at our newest REACH establishment: REACH Berkley School, located at 737 rue Green, Saint-Lambert, QC J4P 1V9.

This position requires an exceptional level of cleanliness comparable to a hospital setting. Specialized training in sanitization protocols is mandatory. The environment includes multiple bathrooms, hygiene rooms, and many students with medical needs such as feeding tubes. Strict adherence to cleanliness and infection control practices is essential to ensure their safety. The facility also includes isolation areas and occupational therapy rooms, all of which require meticulous cleaning and attention to detail.

NATURE OF WORK
As the principal caretaker, you will be responsible for performing and overseeing maintenance work and preventive upkeep in various educational facilities. You will work in the absence of the caretaker, class II, foreman or school principal and cover total areas of less than 9,275 m 2 . In addition, you will perform characteristic functions of a maintenance workman, class II.

CHARACTERISTIC FUNCTIONS

Ensure the cleanliness of the premises by performing maintenance duties according to the established schedule.

Oversee maintenance work carried out by nonspecialized employees and ensure that equipment and apparatus are in good condition.

Inspect and verify lighting, heating and ventilation systems; ensure operation of heating equipment without a stationary engineer.

Carry out or ensure the required preventive upkeep; perform minor or temporary repairs; report breakdowns and ensure necessary repairs.

Follow up the work of specialized or nonspecialized workmen.

Repair doors, windows and furniture; assemble and install material if required.

Implement measures to ensure adequate security against fire and theft, and monitor visitors, students and staff when necessary.

Prepare rooms and halls as needed.

Identify needs for materials, products and equipment required for maintenance work and ensure safe use, storage and disposal of products.

Make suggestions and recommendations concerning products, materials, equipment and work methods.

Supervise the work of other nonspecialized employees if required.

Use a computer and necessary software to perform duties, and perform any other related duty as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

At least three years of pertinent experience.

General knowledge of systems an caretaker looks after: heating, ventilation, lighting, alarm systems.

Basic knowledge of the main construction trades.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Ability to communicate in English and French.

Must be able to work with minimal supervision.

Medical certificate confirming physical capability (required for new employees to the Riverside School Board).

Valid driver’s license; must have a vehicle and be willing to travel throughout the Riverside School Board territory.

Training in general building maintenance is an asset.
