GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under general direction, the Supervisor, Transit Operations is a first level leadership position with a focus on safety and oversight of transit services and direct oversight of Transit Operators, Hostlers, Shelter Maintenance Labourers, and Shelter Maintenance Technicians. This role is also responsible for providing customer service to the public, responding to all incidents, and carrying out other duties as required in the provision of transit service.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead, mentor, coordinate, schedule Transit Operators, and direct daily activities of Transit personnel, bringing any appropriate employment matters to the attention of the Assistant Manager, Transit Operations/Assistant Manager, Transit Planning, and/or delegate.
  • Oversee transit operations during shift, which include verifying that processes and procedures are consistently applied and that equipment and employee requirements are fulfilled.
  • Ensure personnel are trained, certified, competent, and fit for duty on an ongoing basis.
  • Respond to requests for assistance on service matters, passenger concerns, operator assistance, equipment breakdowns, traffic situations, special events, and other related issues.
  • Manage daily service changes on the road and respond to transportation requests, issues, and concerns.
  • Respond to all incidents immediately and conduct incident investigations as required.
  • Monitor and evaluate traffic problems, authorize/assist with route changes and notify drivers in cases of inclement weather, unsafe operation conditions, road construction, or other unique situations affecting delivery of services.
  • Conduct route testing and assessments as needed.
  • Perform routine foot patrols at terminals and other facilities.
  • Maintain daily dispatch log and statistical information.
  • Accurately record all relevant service-related impacts including, but not limited to, passenger counts, public information, service frequencies, changing travel patterns and demands, routing recommendations, service levels, placement of shelters, stops, and signs for service planning and improvements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of reports to ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal regulations.
  • Responsible for developing and ensuring the delivery of toolbox talks and safety meetings.
  • Collect data and prepare daily summaries on all activities and elevate concerning operator and service‑related complaints and compliments.
  • Coordinate with emergency services when required and respond to emergency activations from the Regional Emergency Coordination Centre.
  • Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
