Instructional Resource Specialist role at Longview Independent School District
OverviewProvide infant/toddler students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth; enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications- Education/Certification:
Associate’s Degree (or 48 college credit hours), two years of study at an institution of higher learning, or have met formal academic assessment as required by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) - Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate
- Infant and toddler CDA Certification or equivalent required
- Ability to work well with children
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Some experience working with children
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the child care program and show written evidence of preparation as required
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned
- Conduct assessments of student learning styles and use results for instructional activities
- Discipline children and initiate other measures to control behavior, including taking responsibility for own clothing and picking up toys and books
- Dress and change diapers as well as observe and monitor children’s play activities
- Identify signs of emotional or developmental problems in children and bring them to parents' or guardians’ attention
- Instruct children in health and personal habits such as eating, resting, and toilet habits
- Keep records on individual children, including daily observations and information about learning activities, meals served, and medications administered
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP)
- Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides, volunteers, and high school students
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect children, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences with parents and guardians
- Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members
- Participate in the district staff development program
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required
- Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations
- Adhere to the district’s safety policies and procedures
- Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of walking and interacting with students and/or district employees in the specific work site assigned (classroom or office setting)

Mental Demands:
Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress; coordinate district-wide curriculum functions; interpret policy, procedures, and data.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, pushing; reaching; move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment; repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer terminal possible; occasional district-wide travel; occasional statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; possible biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus;
frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); occasional heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds or over) and positioning of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through physical restraint; assisting non-ambulatory students and lifting and moving adaptive and other classroom equipment; exposure to sun, heat, and inclement weather; exposure to noise.
