Main

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Research, plan, and design mechanical, hydraulic, and other automated equipment used in the manufacturing process of forged steel, high-pressure gas cylinders.
  • Direct and coordinate activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of machine design and material handling systems.
  • Design machinery and material handling systems powered by pneumatics, hydraulics, electro‑mechanical, rotary or other power transmission means to improve processes and reduce cycle time, material and tooling consumption, scrap, and extra processing steps.
  • Produce detailed assembly and part prints on Solid Works.
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes through research, vendor consultations, and operator input, considering cost, quality, safety, delivery, and production capabilities.
  • Direct and coordinate fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design specifications.
  • Manage and prioritize multiple project timelines.
  • Manage large capital projects, including writing requests for appropriation of funds, preparing timelines, coordinating production downtime, and managing capital expense budgets.
  • Employ Design of Experiment and statistical techniques to identify cause and effect of production or design deficiencies.
  • Evaluate existing production equipment and recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
  • Interface with Electrical Engineers to establish appropriate PLC control of automated equipment.
  • Create and maintain accurate documentation of drawings, design concepts, process sheets, procedures, and concepts in accordance with the Norris ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
  • Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education and Work Experience
    - Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or related technical field.
    - Minimum 5 years of engineering experience in heavy industrial machine design in a manufacturing environment.
  • Skills
    - Minimum 3 years of project management experience.
    - High mechanical aptitude and in‑depth understanding of manufacturing methods and processes.
    - High proficiency in modeling and drafting with Solid Works.
    - Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing.
    - Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
    - Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel for design analysis, productivity analysis, statistical graphing of DOE results, and ROI calculations.
    - Proficient with inspection instruments such as calipers, micrometers, tape measures, etc.
    - Ability to initiate and support change within an organization.
    - Ability to interact with all levels of management at local and corporate levels.
    - Ability to handle multiple projects and complete work in a timely manner in a fast‑paced environment with minimal supervision.
    - Strong organizational and communication skills.
    - Enthusiastic, cooperative, and positive behavior.
    - Familiarity with GD&T preferred.
    - Familiarity with servo and motion control preferred.
Physical Requirements

This position requires the mental ability to read and comprehend policies, procedures, instructions, etc., to write reports, use logic and data to solve problems, assess needs, communicate effectively, and maintain varying degrees of independence, judgment, and discretion. Physical ability to be mobile in an office and industrial environment, access maintenance locations of various equipment (including elevated platforms, tight spaces, and near or on equipment), and finger and grasp materials.
