construction safety managers provide support service for construction crews. They also help construction crews stay focused on completing projects in a safe manner. Training each crew member on proper safety procedures is vital. The safety manager should be knowledgeable of hazard recognition and ensure all employees follow the same procedures. A dot (department of transportation) safety manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local transportation safety regulations, including fmcsa, hos, and csa regulations.

responsibilities

• visit job sites to assess ongoing work conditions to ensure compliance
• develop and implement solutions to safety related issues on project sites
• maintain safety related paperwork including osha 300 logs
• maintain safety training certifications including osha oti
• train employees on safe work practices
• discipline employees and subcontractors who fail to comply with minimum safety standards
• perform routine jobsite audits
• identify possible causes and solutions
• investigate and resolve damage complaints
• conduct semi-annual safety meetings
• conduct f/a and spr training, traffic control training, osha, etc.
• administer drug tests in a variety of settings.
• develop and implement safety programs, monitor driver qualification files, conduct safety inspections, and investigate accidents.
• conduct post incident investigations and prepare reports.
• ensure compliance with drug and alcohol testing programs, provide driver training, and track safety performance metrics.
