Overview
Licensed Vocational Nurse PRN Nights at Oceans Healthcare – Ocean’s Behavioral Hospital Longview. Our mission is to help adults and seniors manage anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges through proven, innovative and progressive therapies. The LVN provides nursing care for patients with well‑defined health problems, executing the nursing process as part of a multidisciplinary health care team under the supervision of a registered nurse.
All duties comply with Joint Commission, Federal and State regulations, Oceans’ Mission, policies, procedures, and Performance Improvement Standards.
- Delivers quality nursing care to assigned patients, collecting data, identifying deviations from normal, and assisting with reassessments per unit protocol and hospital policy under the direction of a registered nurse.
- Accurately and thoroughly documents findings in the patient record, identifies expected outcomes based on assessment data, and communicates findings with other health‑care members.
- Implements nursing care interventions from individualized multidisciplinary treatment plans, collaborating with other providers and performing procedures/treatments as prescribed by a physician/LIP.
- Conducts bedside laboratory tests, wound care, and supports ADLs; promotes patient coping, adaptation, and problem‑solving related to illness or stressors.
- Provides supportive, age‑appropriate communication and culturally acceptable interventions, documenting special needs.
- Safely delivers medications per facility policies and physician orders, administering medications with established safety procedures, assessing patients before and after administration, and providing education on medication status.
- Follows up on patient care responsibilities, communicates incomplete assignments and patient needs with other disciplines, and conducts chart audits of transcription.
- Utilizes nursing knowledge to meet facility and patient needs, employing resources to enhance evidence‑based practice.
- Guides, educates, and provides leadership as a preceptor to new staff; performs other duties and projects as assigned.
• Current, valid, active license to practice as a Licensed Vocational/Practical Nurse in the state where the Oceans Healthcare hospital is located (valid Compact licenses accepted).
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• One year of inpatient hospital experience strongly preferred.
• Ability to work in high‑stress environments, assess potential patient escalation, and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Demonstrated organizational skills and sensitivity to culturally diverse and special‑needs populations (Chronically Mentally Ill, Geriatric, CD).
• Basic knowledge of normal physical and emotional development, critical‑thinking abilities, and continuous improvement of patient care.
• Self‑confidence and conceptual leadership.
• Successful completion of CPR certification and an Oceans‑approved behavioral health de‑escalation program.
• Ability to cope mentally and physically in high‑paced, stressful settings; tolerance of unpredictable patient behavior, odors, and sights.
• Willingness to spend >90% of time inside a building with adequate protection from weather, though temperature changes may occur.
