RN - RNFA

This is a 13-week contract position.

Monday to Friday, 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM

The RN First Assistant (RNFA) is a perioperative registered nurse who collaborates with the surgical team to achieve optimal patient outcomes. The RNFA possesses the necessary knowledge, judgment, and skills required for the expanded role and practices under the direction of the surgeon.

• Manage surgical patient care delivery utilizing the nursing process.
• Complete and document patient assessments and create multidisciplinary plans of care.
• Create and maintain a sterile field and initiate corrective actions as needed.
• Perform instrument counts and ensure all counts are accurate.
• Administer and document medications per organizational policies.
• Participate in the Universal Protocol/Time-Out process.
• Demonstrate competency to provide first assistant duties, including tissue handling and suturing.

• Successful completion of an RNFA program meeting AORN standards.
• At least 5 years of OR experience, including scrubbing and circulating.
• Current RN License in Texas or compact state.
• BLS and ACLS Certifications (AHA only).
• CNOR Perioperative Nursing Certificate.
