- Utilizes the nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation) to formulate individualized care and treatment plans.
- Identifies risk levels, precautions, and expected outcomes, including discharge planning; prescribes interventions to reach expected outcomes; evaluates their effectiveness; conducts ongoing assessment from admission to discharge; initiates medical/psychiatric crisis intervention to stabilize patients.
- Demonstrates knowledge of psychiatric disorders and implements appropriate nursing interventions, advancing patients toward wellness and maintaining it.
- Administers medications as prescribed safely; educates patients on medications; recognizes signs and symptoms of adverse drug reactions.
- Demonstrates professionalism, accountability, and responsibility for decision‑making, quality nursing care, and the psychiatric nursing knowledge base.
- Reviews, revises, and updates medical records per facility guidelines and time frames; transcribes and implements physician orders per policy; documents care, progress, and response to intervention accurately and concisely.
- Follows up on client care responsibilities, communicates incomplete assignments and current client needs to staff to ensure continuity of care.
- Assigns and delegates staff duties using appropriate judgment; demonstrates willingness to assist staff and patients; advocates for patient needs and safety.
- Applies nursing knowledge to meet the needs of the facility and patient population, utilizing resources to enhance evidence‑based practice.
- Floats among various clinical services, performing other duties and projects as assigned when qualified and competent.
- Current, valid, and active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of employment with Oceans Healthcare.
- Valid Compact licenses are acceptable where applicable.
- Minimum of an Associate Degree in Nursing is required.
- One year of inpatient hospital experience strongly preferred.
- Ability to adapt to a high‑stress environment and assess potential for patient escalation.
- Effective oral and written communication skills; organization; sensitivity to culturally diverse and special‑needs populations such as Chronically Mentally Ill, Geriatric, CD; knowledge of normal physical and emotional development.
- Exhibits critical thinking for continuous improvement of patient care.
- Demonstrates self‑confidence and conceptual leadership ability.
- Must successfully complete CPR certification and an Oceans‑approved behavioral health de‑escalation program.
Subject to many interruptions, pressure from multiple calls and inquiries. 12‑hour rotating shifts, high‑paced and stressful; requires mental and physical coping. May experience disagreeable odors, sights, and unpredictable patient behavior. Requires spending approximately 90% or more of the time inside a building that offers protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
