Job Description

Are you ready to take your nursing career to the next level? We’re looking for an enthusiastic and skilled RN First Assist to join our exciting surgical team!

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate closely with surgeons and healthcare team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Utilize the nursing process to manage surgical patient care effectively.
  • Create and maintain a sterile field while adhering to aseptic principles.
  • Prepare and demonstrate proper prepping and draping techniques for various procedures.
  • Ensure the proper functioning of surgical equipment, operating within established protocols.
  • Perform accurate sponge, sharps, and instrument counts, and communicate results effectively.
  • Monitor and control the surgical environment to maintain safety and comfort for patients and associates.
  • Administer and document medications in alignment with policy.
  • Exercise safe judgment and flexibility in adapting to changes in nursing practice.
  • Participate in patient and associate education, identifying teaching needs and readiness to learn.
  • Plan and implement safe patient positioning and manage sterile instruments and supplies effectively.
  • Competently handle specimens and safeguard patient information.
  • Participate in the Universal Protocol/Time‑Out process to ensure patient safety and care.
  • Maintain accurate inventory management and stay updated on surgical schedules to ensure appropriate supplies.
  • Foster a collaborative environment, recognizing the contributions of all team members.
  • Demonstrate proficiency as a first assist, including instrument handling, exposing and managing tissue, and suturing.
Requirements
  • Successful completion of an RNFA program aligning with AORN standards and recognized by the Competency and Credentialing Institute (CCI).
  • Minimum of 5 years of operating room experience, including both scrubbing and circulating roles.
  • Previous OR experience required for members of the CV team.
  • Must hold a current RN license in Texas or a compact state.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA only).
  • CNOR Perioperative Nursing Certificate preferred.
