We are hiring a Supervisor Quality Control at Westlake for operations in Longview, TX. This is a Full‑time, Mid‑Senior level position with a competitive salary in the range of $‑$.

Summary

Responsible for the coordination of safe day‑to‑day operations of the Quality Control Laboratory, ensuring that test methods comply with internal, ISO, ASTM, government, and industry standards. Provide analytical testing support to Longview Operations, HSE Environmental, Maintenance Reliability, and other departments, and oversee the Quality Assurance (QA) group.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Perform duties in a manner that protects personal safety and the safety of all personnel on site, follow Company policies and HSE procedures, and promptly report incidents or issues.
  • Interpret, explain, and administer Company personnel policies and departmental instructions to supervised employees.
  • Ensure laboratory meets high‑quality standards, establish and maintain control standards for critical tests, and calibrate equipment according to ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Lead the first‑line team and oversee daily assignments of Lead Technician, Sr. Technician, Lab Technician, Day Technician, and QA Specialist.
  • Coordinate overall training for QA Specialists and QC Lab personnel, including preparing training materials and continuing education.
  • Complete all computer‑based training modules and ensure supervised employees do the same.
  • Communicate expectations clearly, conduct annual performance appraisals, and evaluate employee performance objectively.
  • Assign staff to ensure lab equipment is operational, write work orders, issue permits, and manage lock‑out/tag‑out procedures.
  • Utilize EDMS to manage laboratory SOPs, approve SOPs, and maintain instrument and equipment operating procedures.
  • Oversee the site quality program, including raw material fitness‑for‑use, batch new‑make testing, shipment testing, customer complaints, and manufacturing records.
  • Work with Operations, TS&D, and business teams to develop improvements to site quality assurance processes.
  • Oversee the QA process for disposition of non‑conforming product and authorize new or revised sales specifications, formula approval sheets, sampling plans, and customer specifications.
  • Serve as Lead Auditor/Auditor for Westlake internal audits and a technical resource for third‑party and customer audits.
  • Direct selection, set‑up, and operation of new laboratory testing equipment with input from QC Lab Chemist and technology lab resources.
  • Coordinate work schedules, including overtime when needed, and source special testing with outside laboratories.
  • Establish a program for maintenance of lab supplies inventory and attend relevant seminars, conferences, and training programs.
  • Maintain contact with vendors about new instrumentation and keep abreast of advances in the polymer industry.
  • Write monthly reports of work performed and attend morning production meetings as required.
  • Maintain ASTM membership and attend D20 committee meetings.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.
Education, Experience And Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • B.S. or A.A. in Chemistry or a lab‑related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in quality/lab processes and operations.
  • Knowledge of polyethylene and EPON production facilities is required.
  • Knowledge of analytical and physical testing requirements and instrumentation used for each production area is required.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written communication skills is required.
  • Software and computer experience is required.
Physical Demands

This job is performed mainly in a control room or office setting; physical presence is required. The employee must sit, stand, walk, reach, grasp, push, pull, twist, lift, and communicate. Tasks may involve bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and using elevated platforms. Typical lifting requirements include up to 10 lbs, 25 lbs, and occasionally 50 lbs. Vision requirements include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Employees must respond to audible emergency alarms and evacuate when required.

Work Environment

The employee must work in a normal factory environment, including enclosed spaces and exposure to hazards. Noise is moderate and work is usually in an office. Some tasks may require PPE such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and flame‑retardant clothing. Exposure to outside elements, stairs, elevators, and occasional travel may occur.
