HIM Operations Specialist
Peace Health is hiring a full‑time HIM Coordinator to work onsite at our Longview, WA location.
Salary
: $17.40 – $26.10 per hour (dependent on experience, education, and other factors).
Analyzes health records for completeness, communicates record deficiencies to providers, follows hospital protocol and regulatory requirements; documents imaging – prep, scan and quality control – in hybrid health record systems (electronic and hardcopy); provides general clerical support to the department; processes birth certificates; stores, retrieves and delivers health records; validates SER (Schedulable EPIC Resource) provider records ensuring correct set up for distribution of patient records.
EssentialFunctions
- Analyzes health records for completeness and accuracy.
- Communicates medical record deficiencies and escalates non‑compliant providers as appropriate.
- Notifies providers/departments of insufficient completion of records per guidelines.
- Acts as a resource for providers on electronic medical record use and maintains onsite archival records.
- Gathers, compiles, and enters required information in vital records systems for Oregon, Washington, and Alaska births.
- Completes other vital records workflows including Social Security requests and paternity affidavits.
- Performs advanced sorting, prep, scanning, and quality control for document management.
- Communicates with clinics and hospital locations to educate on processes and clarify questions.
- Participates in calls to assist in correct indexing of documents into Care Connect and supports electronic health record implementation of point‑of‑care scanning.
- Validates new and existing providers and facilities in Care Connect SER file and communicates with the Security Team.
- Assists visitors needing records help and performs additional duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma Preferred or equivalent.
- College coursework in Medical Terminology, Health Information Management, Project Management, Office Administration, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Minimum of 1 year of general office or administrative experience.
- Basic knowledge of general office procedures and equipment.
- Basic knowledge of anatomy and/or human physiology.
- Ability to use a complex EMR system (Required).
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision (Required).
- Ability to round and pick up documents from hospital units and clinics (Required).
- Proficient computer and keyboard skills, including MS Office (Required).
- Proficiency in numeric filing, speed, and accuracy (Required).
- Good judgment and decision‑making skills (Required).
- Strong organizational skills (Required).
- Multi‑task and detail oriented (Required).
- Ability to handle interruptions from phone calls, emails, and questions (Required).
- Use of Skype technology for communication with peers (Required).
- Good verbal and written communication skills (Required).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality (Required).
- Consistently operates computer and office equipment.
- Exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects.
- Sedentary work.
