Fire Marshal – City of Longview, WA
Salary Range: $156,432 – $162,108 annually

Longview, Washington is located in Southwest Washington along the scenic Columbia River Basin nestled between Portland, OR and Seattle, WA. Longview is a comfortable and affordable community with proximity to larger city amenities as well as abundant outdoor recreational activities in the Cascade Mountains, Pacific beaches, and numerous rivers and lakes.

The Fire Marshal is responsible for reviewing and analyzing plans for compliance with building code and fire and life safety requirements, and providing non-structural residential, commercial, and industrial plans review services; providing technical expertise and support, conducting mandated inspections, determining origin and cause of fires, training Fire Department employees in the enforcement of codes and ordinances; answering questions relating to building and construction with respect to fire and life safety;

assisting in the development of new or revised building, and fire and life safety codes and ordinances, and department programs.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university or college. A minimum five years’ experience in the fire service (experience in firefighting, fire protection engineering, fire prevention, fire or building inspection, plan review, or any combination of education and experience which would provide the necessary knowledge and abilities). An additional two years consecutive service at the rank of Company Officer, Deputy Fire Marshal, Fire Marshal or equivalent (internal applicants) or an additional three years consecutive service at the rank of Company Officer, Deputy Fire Marshal, Fire Marshal or equivalent (external applicants).

ICC Fire Inspector II Certification and ICC Fire or Building Plans Examiner Certification, or the ability to obtain both within one year from date of employment;
Certified Fire Investigator desirable. Valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
