Work Study - Bookstore Cashier

The Bookstore is looking for a work study eligible Cashier to join their team. This is a temporary, non-benefited student position. Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, this position performs customer service duties including assisting customers on the sales floor; answering questions and phone inquiries; checking in, pricing, and stocking merchandise; counting inventory; operating a cash register to sell books, supplies, sundries, and other related merchandise.
This position receives and disburses money in our Bookstore establishment. Processes credit/debit card and cash payments using a Point‑of‑Sale system while providing excellent customer service and accurate cash handling. Daily duties include placement and removal of merchandise on the sales floor, housekeeping duties and processing of customer orders both online and in‑person.
Note:
This position is limited to 19 hours per week and accrues 1 hour of non‑compensable sick leave for every 40 hours worked.

Responsibilities- Accurately rings up customers using a register
- Provides excellent customer service in‑person and over the phone
- Assists customers with course material inquiries and orders
- Follows daily assignment list issued by management which includes duties such as: pricing, placing merchandise on sales floor, creatively promoting new merchandise, creating window and in‑store displays in an attractive manner, keeping the store stocked
- Maintains clean and organized store areas daily
- Reports any incidents of theft to management immediately
- Must be available during Bookstore hours
- Assists managers with projects such as events, social media, promotions, etc.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- High School Diploma (or GED) preferred
- Ability to work independently, be self‑disciplined, and be able to problem solve as needed
- Basic computer use and computer related equipment/software
- Ability to work split and rotating shifts
- Must stand for extended periods, lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
- One year or more of prior merchandising or marketing experience
- Prior experience attending or familiarity with the community college setting
- Cashier and/or retail experience
- Interest in social media and advertising
- Experience with digital formats – eBooks, Inclusive Access, etc.
- Bilingual
